Starring guest chef Biyama to bring you authentic made-from-scratch Nigerian food…
and it’s vegan to boot!
So what is Nigerian food? Lots of delicious simmered one-pot dishes with very bright and distinct flavours. It has that lovely thick, richness characteristic of West African dishes. The features are, well, I will paraphrase Wikipedia: lots of spices and herbs to create deeply flavoured sauces and soups. Nigerian feasts are colourful and lavish, while aromatic market and roadside snacks cooked on barbecues or fried in oil are plentiful and varied.
It can be spicy, but don’t worry! We are going to keep it flavourful rather than spicy and we will have chilli sauce on the side should you like some.
Here are a selection of the Nigerian dishes we will be having:
- Jollof rice (a tomato based rice) with spicy tomato sauce on the side
- Fried plantains
- Bean salad
- Tuwo shinkafa- pounded rice
- Egusi Soup – Melon seed and spinach soup*
- Miyan Tauche- Peanut and sorrel soup* with “chicken”
- Kale, onion and peanut salad
- Puff puff- doughnuts
- Tropical fresh fruit salad
- Home made ice cream
- Zobo- a hibiscus drink
- Alcoholic Zobo
* It’s called “soup” but it is really like a rich curry.
(And I am drooling just thinking about it. You will not go hungry!)
Of course you understand if I need to swap a dish.
Please contact before hand if you have food allergies/concerns.
